Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert is set to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday to provide cyber security cooperation to children of least developed and poor countries.
Fifty years back the famous “The Concert for Bangladesh” was organised at Madison Square Garden by former Beatles guitarist George Harrison and Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar to raise international awareness of, and fund relief for refugees from Bangladesh during the 1971 Liberation War.
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority under ICT Division will arrange the concert where world renowned band Scorpions and Bangladesh’s noted band Chirkut will perform.
In a press conference ahead of the concert in New York, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the concert is being arranged in memory of the great initiative of George Harrison and Pundit Ravi Shankar during the Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
Noting that around 4,000 tickets have already been sold, he said earned money from the concert will be provided to UNDP fund for using the money in ensuring cyber security.
Palak said besides UNDP-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Global Cyber Security Awareness Award will be introduced from next year.
Hi-Tech Park Authority Managing Director Bikarna Kumar Ghosh chaired the press conference which was moderated by Consul General of Bangladesh in New York Mohammad Monirul Islam.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post and Telecommunication and Information Technology members Nurul Alam Ruhul, Aparajita Haque, Aspire to Innovate (a2i) Policy Adviser Anir Chowdhury, Digital Security Agency Director General Khairul Amin, Department of ICT Director General Rezaul Maksud Jahedi were present, among others.
