Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) for the southern region, reminded the interim government that only 21 working days remain out of the 30-day deadline to publish the long-awaited July Declaration.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (May 22), Hasnat emphasized the urgency, following the government’s commitment made on May 10 after mass protests demanding the declaration and a ban on the Awami League.

The interim government responded by banning the party‍‍`s activities and pledging to issue the July Declaration within 30 working days.

The July Declaration has been a central demand of student and civil society groups since the July uprising.

An initial attempt to unveil it on December 31 at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar was postponed after controversy.

The government later promised to prepare a consensual draft through stakeholder consultations.

On May 10, the interim advisory council approved an amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal Act, allowing the tribunal to try political parties and their affiliates.

It also decided to maintain the ban on Awami League activities—including in cyberspace—until the tribunal completes proceedings against the party and its leaders.

The government further committed to finalizing and releasing the July Declaration within 30 working days, a clock that is now ticking, as activists keep up the pressure.
