Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public call to report any incidents where individuals are taken by people falsely claiming to be members of the Detective Branch (DB).

Rezaul Karim Mallik, the Additional Commissioner of DB, made the statement during a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road on Saturday morning.

The announcement comes as part of a broader effort to increase security during Ramadan, a time when the city experiences heightened public activity.

Mallik also shared that starting today, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police will launch a special “all-out” operation aimed at maintaining law and order across the capital during the holy month.

The increased presence of officers is expected at crowded locations such as shopping malls, bus terminals, and key entry points to the city.

"The law and order situation in Dhaka is improving,” Mallik stated. “During Ramadan, there’s a large influx of people in certain areas. To make sure no unwanted incidents occur, DB officers will be working undercover to catch criminals who try to mix with the crowd."

Mallik further emphasized that a considerable number of offenders are between 15 and 30 years old.

He also expressed concern about attempts by some individuals linked to the previously defeated government to stir unrest using teenage gang members.

“They are trying to use these youth gangs to create tension,” he noted.

The DMP’s appeal for the public’s cooperation in reporting suspicious activity is part of a larger strategy to maintain safety and stability throughout the capital during this period.

By placing officers undercover, the DMP hopes to thwart any criminal activities in areas that see high traffic during the busy Ramadan season.

The press conference was attended by other key figures within the DMP, including Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner (DB South), Mohammad Robiul Hossain Bhuiyan, Joint Commissioner (DB North), and Muhammad Talebur Rahman, the Deputy Commissioner and DMP spokesperson.

As the city gears up for the busy weeks ahead, authorities are working to ensure a safe environment for all residents and visitors during Ramadan, calling on the public to be vigilant and report any unusual activities.
