Eid-e-Miladunnabi being observed

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), is being observed across Bangladesh today (Saturday) with due religious fervor and solemnity.

According to the Hijri calendar, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born on the 12th of Rabiul Awal in 570 AD in Makkah with divine blessings and a message of peace for humanity. He passed away on the same date.

To mark the occasion, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser to the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus issued separate messages extending greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims worldwide.

The national flag has been hoisted atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings. As in previous years, major roads and key locations in Dhaka have been decorated with national and colorful flags, along with banners inscribed with the Kalima Tayyiba.

The Islamic Foundation has undertaken a series of religious and cultural programs, including Qur’an recitation (Qirat), Naat recitations, poetry readings, cultural competitions, and an Arabic Khutba writing contest. The foundation has also published commemorative books and organized seminars. A two-week-long Islamic book fair is underway on the southern premises of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, beginning on 12 Rabiul Awal.

Universities, schools, cultural and religious institutions, along with the Waqf Administrator’s office, Islamic Foundation, and Hajj offices in Dhaka and Jeddah, have been instructed to hold discussions, milad and doa mahfils, Naat recitations, and quiz competitions. These events highlight the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), emphasizing Islam’s messages of peace, progress, tolerance, brotherhood, human rights, and dignity of women.

The Bangladesh Shishu Academy has arranged special events for children, including Naat recitations, essay competitions, and discussions. On this occasion, special meals are being served at all hospitals, prisons, orphanages, child care centers, and old-age homes across the country.

Bangladeshi embassies and missions abroad are also observing the day with religious solemnity. The day has been declared a public holiday.
