A deadly crash involving 10 vehicles took place on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway early on Sunday, December 22, due to thick fog, leaving one private car driver dead and several others injured.

The accident happened between the early hours of the morning and just before sunrise in the Shreenagar area of Munshiganj.

The fog was so dense that it caused multiple vehicles, including buses and trucks, to lose control and crash into each other, creating a dangerous pile-up.

The first accident occurred around 4 a.m., when two cargo trucks collided. Later, around 7:30 a.m., two passenger buses lost control and smashed into one another, damaging both the back of one bus and the front of the other.

Many people were injured in the crash. At the same time, a pickup truck went out of control and crashed into a private car, injuring even more people.

Abdul Kader Zilani, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hansara Highway Police Station, confirmed the accident, saying, “At least five people were injured in the collisions due to the dense fog. They were rescued from the scene and sent to the local health complex for treatment.”

The police quickly arrived at the scene and began clearing the wrecked vehicles to get traffic moving again. "We are working hard to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow," added OC Zilani.

The police believe the accidents were caused by drivers speeding in the thick fog, which made it hard to see clearly.

They are urging drivers to be extra cautious in such weather conditions.
