In a significant development, former minister and JASAD leader Hasanul Haq Inu has been granted a four-day remand in connection with a murder case in Gulshan.

The court gave its ruling after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense on Monday, December 30.

Inu was brought before the court, where the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Abu Zafar Biswas from the Gulshan Detective Branch (DB), requested a 10-day remand to properly investigate the case.

However, Inu’s lawyers opposed the remand, asking the court to reject the request. Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki, representing the state, also supported the request for remand.

After considering the arguments from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman decided to grant a four-day remand for Inu.

Inu’s lawyers argued that the remand request was politically motivated, saying that it was an attempt to harass him.

"We request the court not to grant the remand. If needed, the interrogation can be done at the jail gate," they said during the hearing.

The investigation officer, however, told the court that Inu was the 9th accused in the case and played a key role in the planning of the murder.

To uncover the full truth behind the crime, he argued, a 10-day remand was necessary.

Meanwhile, Public Prosecutor Faruk Faruki emphasized Inu’s involvement in the case, saying, "Inu is an accused in the case. Leaders like Inu from the 14-party alliance were behind instigating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to carry out such a massacre. That’s why we are requesting the maximum remand."

The murder case involves the tragic killing of Mohammad Bahadur Hossain Monir, who was shot while crossing the road on Pragati Sarani in Gulshan on July 19 during an anti-discrimination protest.

He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

On September 30, the victim’s father, Mohammad Abu Zafar, filed a murder case at Gulshan Police Station, naming 105 individuals, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as accused in the matter.
