Families of the victims of enforced disappearances, under the banner of ‍‍`Mayer Dak‍‍`, today submitted a memorandum to Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam of the International Crimes Tribunal, demanding justice for those involved in abductions, extrajudicial killings, and the operation of secret detention centres known as ‍‍`Aynaghar‍‍`.

The memorandum was submitted this afternoon following a human chain held earlier at the High Court Mazar gate in Dhaka, reports The Daily Star.

In the memorandum, ‍‍`Mayer Dak‍‍` called for the immediate publication of a list of officials from various law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, and government departments alleged to be involved in enforced disappearances and torture. They urged government to take swift action to prevent these individuals from fleeing the country.

The platform also demanded that all those implicated in killings, disappearances, and torture be removed from cantonments, arrested through due legal process, and placed in custody. They called for the removal of senior military officials accused of involvement in such crimes and stressed the need for impartial judicial investigations against them.

Furthermore, Mayer Dak insisted that all members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), National Security Intelligence (NSI), Detective Branch (DB), and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit allegedly involved in human rights violations be held accountable and brought under legal scrutiny.

They urged the government to take immediate steps to preserve Aynaghar, ensuring that no evidence is destroyed or concealed. Legal action must be taken against anyone involved in tampering with or eliminating evidence, they said.

The platform also stressed the need for guarantees that enforced disappearances, torture, and secret detentions will not recur in future. They called for necessary legal reforms to safeguard the constitution and protect human rights.

They also demanded state recognition for the families of the disappeared and urged the government to take responsibility for their welfare.
