Mob justice still prevails outside Dhaka: Home adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that while incidents of mob justice have declined in and around Dhaka, such practices continue in different parts of the country.

He made the remarks on Monday (August 18) while addressing a press briefing at the Secretariat following the 12th meeting of law enforcement agencies at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The meeting discussed issues including the registration of murder cases from July, the overall law and order situation across the country, actions against those involved in mob violence, measures against muggers and extortionists, and bail concerns for top criminals.

Speaking about security preparedness, the adviser said that ahead of the upcoming election, the government has recruited 15,851 police personnel, 4,469 members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 5,551 Ansar members, 1,558 prison guards, and 208 fire service and civil defense staff.

He noted that the recruitments include both new and vacant posts, with police recruits ranging from sub-inspectors to constables, while BGB and Ansar recruits were inducted as constables.
