In the recent meeting about the July Uprising Declaration, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, reflected on the power of unity and how it led to the formation of the current government.
Speaking at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday, January 16, Dr. Yunus told everyone present,
"The feeling of August 5 was all about unity. The Interim Government was created through unity, and that unity is our strength."
He shared how, at one point, a group of students came to him, saying they wanted to announce a proclamation and wanted him to be part of it.
Dr. Yunus explained that he was cautious and needed to understand what kind of proclamation they were planning.
He then told the students,
"This won’t work. It’s not right for me to go, and it’s not right for you to do this either."
He emphasized that if they wanted to recreate the spirit of August 5, they needed to bring everyone together.
"The whole feeling of that day was unity. No one singled anyone out. If you want to make this work, you have to do it together, with everyone. If you don`t do it this way, it will not be right. It would disrespect the unity that made August 5 possible."
Dr. Yunus recalled that the students were initially upset with his advice, but over time, they came to understand that to recreate the energy of that day, they needed to work together.
"From that conversation, we started discussing how to do this together. And today, this meeting is all about that," he said.
He ended with a heartfelt message,
"Please keep me in your prayers. As long as I’m here, I will stay committed to this unity. We need to walk this path together, and your support gives me the courage to do so. When I look at all of you today, I feel inspired, thinking back to the unity of August 5."
