Jagannath University (JnU) has got Professor Sadeka Halim as its vice chancellor (VC).
Prof Halim, who is currently the chair of the sociology department at Dhaka University, has been appointed as per a gazette notice published on Thursday by the Ministry of Education.
The appointment was made by President Mohammed Shahabuddin for a four-year term.
Following the cancer-related death of former vice chancellor Imdadul Hoque, the chair of JnU VC became vacant.
In addition to serving as a member of the National Education Policy Formulation Committee from 2010 to the present, Professor Sadeka Halim was the first female information commissioner in this country.
She obtained her PhD from McGill University in Canada after starting her teaching career in 1988 at Dhaka University.
Notably, her father Fazlul Halim Chowdhury served as Dhaka University`s vice chancellor for a while.
Sadeka Halim is also a member of ruling Awami League`s Advisory Council.
