US authorities have confirmed that the second body recovered in Florida is that of Bangladeshi student Nahida Sultana Bristy, officials said.

Bangladesh’s embassy in Washington said local police contacted her family and formally confirmed the identification.

The embassy, along with the Bangladesh consulate in Miami, has started steps to send her body back to Bangladesh following a request from the family.

Meanwhile, the body of Zamil Ahamed Limon, the other victim, is expected to arrive in Dhaka on May 4.

Both victims were doctoral students at the University of South Florida and had been missing since April 16.

Investigators said Limon’s body was found near a bridge on April 24 with signs of multiple stab wounds. A second body was recovered from a nearby waterway two days later and has now been identified as Bristy.

Police have arrested the main suspect, Hisham Abugharbieh, a former student and roommate. He has been ordered to remain in custody without bail.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, while arrangements are being made to return the victims’ bodies to Bangladesh.
