The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country over the next 24 hours, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in some areas.
According to a weather bulletin issued on Saturday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely in most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
The Met Office said some places across the country could experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall during the forecast period.
Day and night temperatures are expected to remain almost unchanged nationwide.
Meteorologists said the low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh and adjacent regions has weakened and merged with the monsoon trough.
The monsoon axis currently extends from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to Assam, passing through central Bangladesh. An associated trough stretches into the North Bay.
The BMD said the monsoon remains active over Bangladesh and is strong over the North Bay, contributing to the ongoing wet weather.
