2 more die of dengue, 364 hospitalized in 24 hours

Two more people have died from dengue in the past 24 hours, while 364 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the DGHS released the latest update on Saturday (September 6).

Of the new admissions, 49 patients are from areas outside the Barishal City Corporation, 76 from outside Chattogram City Corporation, 50 from outside Dhaka Division, 58 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 73 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 38 from outside Khulna City Corporation, and 20 from outside Mymensingh City Corporation.

During the same period, 359 patients were released after recovery, raising the total number of discharges this year to 32,153.

From January 1 to September 6, dengue has claimed 132 lives, with a total of 33,831 cases recorded across the country.

DGHS data shows that hospital admissions were 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,684 in July. The corresponding death tolls were 10 in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, 3 in May, 19 in June, and 41 in July. In August alone, 32 deaths and 7,652 hospitalizations were reported.

Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever annual dengue hospitalizations in 2023, with 321,179 patients. In comparison, 101,211 cases were reported in 2024, 62,382 in 2022, 28,429 in 2021, 1,405 in 2020, and 101,354 in 2019.
