3 more die of dengue, 473 hospitalized in 24 hours

Dengue has claimed three more lives in the past 24 hours, while 473 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to a press release issued on Tuesday (September 2) by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the newly admitted patients, 113 were from areas outside Barishal City Corporation, 81 from areas outside Chattogram City Corporation, 76 from areas outside Dhaka Division, 54 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 83 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 10 from areas outside Mymensingh Division, 48 from areas outside Rajshahi Division, seven from areas outside Rangpur Division, and two from areas outside Sylhet Division.

During the same period, 491 dengue patients were released after recovery, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 30,813.

From January 1 to September 2 this year, a total of 32,501 dengue cases have been recorded, with 59.7 percent being male and 40.3 percent female. The official death toll from dengue this year has now reached 125.

For comparison, in 2024 Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. In 2023, the country saw the deadliest outbreak on record, with 321,179 hospital admissions and 1,705 fatalities.
