391 dengue patients hospitalized, 1 death in 24 Hours

The country’s dengue situation continues to worsen, with 391 new hospitalizations reported in the last 24 hours and one new death recorded, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday, July 12.

Of the new cases, the highest number—128—were reported from Barisal Division, indicating a concerning rise in regional outbreaks.

This year, the mosquito-borne disease has already claimed 55 lives, while a total of 14,460 patients have been hospitalized across the country since January. The month of July alone has seen 4,164 new hospital admissions and three deaths so far.

Currently, 1,302 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals, with 385 in Dhaka and the remaining 917 spread across various divisions outside the capital.

According to DGHS records, the monthly distribution of hospitalizations paints a grim picture. In January, 1,161 cases and 10 deaths were reported. February saw 374 cases and 3 deaths, while March recorded 336 hospitalizations but no fatalities. The number started climbing again in April, with 701 cases and 7 deaths, followed by 1,773 cases and 3 deaths in May. In June, cases surged dramatically to 5,951, resulting in 19 deaths.

Health experts are warning that the situation could deteriorate further unless preventive measures are strictly followed. The DGHS continues to urge the public to remain alert, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, and seek timely medical care to prevent complications and fatalities.
