Bangladesh reports highest single-day dengue death as 6 die afresh

Bangladesh has recorded the highest single-day dengue death toll of the current season, with six fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of dengue-related deaths this year to 145. In the same period, 586 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (11 September).

The DGHS reported that three of the six deaths occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, while one death each was reported in Dhaka North City Corporation, Mymensingh Division, and Rajshahi Division.

Dhaka North City Corporation registered the highest number of hospital admissions with 144 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours. Other admissions included 109 in Barishal Division, 104 in Dhaka Division, 103 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 58 in Chattogram Division, 44 in Rajshahi Division, 12 in Mymensingh Division, 10 in Rangpur Division, and 2 in Sylhet Division.

Since January 1, a total of 145 dengue deaths have been confirmed nationwide. Dhaka South City Corporation recorded the highest number of fatalities at 74, followed by 21 deaths in Chattogram Division, 19 in Barishal Division, 13 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 7 in Rajshahi Division, 5 in Khulna Division, 4 in Mymensingh Division, and 2 in Dhaka Division.
