The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to deteriorate as one more person died and 420 new patients were hospitalised with the disease in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total number of dengue-related deaths in 2025 to 56, while the number of hospital admissions has climbed to 14,880, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the newly admitted patients, Barishal division reported the highest number with 116 cases. As of now, 1,240 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different public and private hospitals across the country. Of them, 387 are in Dhaka and 853 are admitted in hospitals outside the capital.

The month of July alone has already seen 4,584 hospitalisations and 14 deaths, showing a clear upward trend as the monsoon season progresses. Health officials fear the numbers may rise further if preventive measures are not strictly followed.

Earlier data reveals that the number of dengue cases steadily increased over the past few months. In January, there were 1,161 cases with 10 deaths, followed by 374 cases and 3 deaths in February.

March saw 336 hospitalisations with no deaths reported, while April recorded 701 cases and 7 deaths. In May, 1,773 people were hospitalised and 3 deaths occurred. The situation worsened in June, with 5,951 hospital admissions and 19 fatalities.

Health authorities have urged the public to stay alert, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, and seek medical attention at the first sign of symptoms like fever, headache, or body pain.

The government is also calling on city corporations and local administrations to intensify their anti-mosquito drives.
