Amid a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases, Bangladesh‍‍`s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged the public to wear masks in crowded places to prevent the spread of the virus.

In an official press release issued on Friday by Senior Information Officer Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, the ministry recommended that everyone wear masks, particularly in areas with large gatherings. Elderly individuals and those with underlying health conditions have been advised to avoid such areas altogether.

The advisory follows the confirmation of one Covid -19-related death and three new infections within the last 24 hours. The latest fatality marks the first reported Covid -related death since July 26, 2024, when the last such case was recorded.

Bangladesh first detected Covid -19 cases on March 8, 2020. The first death from the virus occurred ten days later, on March 18. While the infection rate had declined significantly, the recent developments have prompted renewed caution from health authorities.

The Ministry reiterated the importance of public health measures, especially for vulnerable populations, and emphasized that preventive steps like wearing masks remain crucial in curbing further transmission.
