K.S. Eshwarappa, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and a recently expelled BJP leader, is facing legal trouble after making inflammatory comments about Bangladesh.
On Thursday, during a protest rally in Karnataka, Eshwarappa made remarks that sparked outrage.
The rally was organized by groups like the Hindu Protectors` Association, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Bajrang Dal, who were protesting the alleged detention of Hindus in Bangladesh.
In his speech, Eshwarappa not only spoke about the situation in Bangladesh but also criticized Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his leadership of the interim government.
The speech was recorded and shared widely on social media, which quickly led to accusations that he was spreading religious hatred.
Following the uproar, the police in the town of Shivamogga, in Karnataka, filed a case against Eshwarappa. The police acted on their own, without waiting for a formal complaint, after the video went viral.
This isn’t the first time Eshwarappa has faced legal action. On November 16, another case was filed against him for making threats to Muslims and inciting violence.
Earlier this year, Eshwarappa was expelled from the BJP after he ran as a rebel candidate for the Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat, going against the party`s official choice.
The recent comments come at a time when tensions are high over the alleged mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Since the fall of Bangladesh`s government in August, the Indian government has been repeatedly speaking out about the situation.
However, the Bangladesh government has denied these accusations, stating that many of the reports about attacks on minorities are false or misleading.
This case is just the latest chapter in the ongoing debate over religious tensions in both countries.
