Sajeeb Wazed Joy gets 5-year jail in Rajuk plot scam case

A Dhaka court today sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to seven years in prison and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy to five years over alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in Rajuk’s Purbachal New Town Project.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 announced the verdict in the absence of both Hasina and Joy, as they have not yet been arrested. The trial was completed in their absence.

The court also fined Joy—who earlier served as the ICT adviser to his mother—Tk 1 lakh.

Earlier, on November 23, the same court set today as the date for delivering the verdict after both the prosecution and defence completed their arguments.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan filed the case against 15 people, including Hasina and Joy. The charge sheet later mentioned 17 accused.

On July 31, 2025, the court framed charges in the three related cases and issued arrest warrants for all the accused.
