Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has said that the number of International Crimes Tribunals may be increased to ensure the speedy trial of the July massacre.
He made the remark on Tuesday around 8:30 am while inspecting renovation work at the main building of Tribunal-2.
Trials of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising are currently underway with significant progress.
Formal charges have already been framed in four cases, and witness testimonies are being recorded. Testimony in the case against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also nearing completion.
At present, proceedings are being conducted in Tribunal-1 and Tribunal-2. However, hearings of Tribunal-2 are temporarily taking place in a tin-shed structure as its main building is under renovation.
During the inspection visit, Dr Asif Nazrul was accompanied by Housing, Public Works and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, Chief Prosecutor of the Tribunal Md Tazul Islam, Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim, and other officials.
