A businessman has been shot in broad daylight and robbed of 22 lakh taka.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Tuesday near Mirpur 10 No. A video of the event went viral.
The victim was identified as Md. Mahmudul Islam (55), owner of Mahmud Money Exchange. He was seriously injured in the shooting and later admitted to Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Following the incident, members of the army, police, and RAB arrived at the scene.
Mahmudul lives with his family in Mirpur 4 No. Lane, Section 6. His ancestral home is in Madarganj Upazila, Jamalpur district.
Mahmudul reported that while traveling from his home to his money exchange office near Mirpur 10 No. Gol Chattar, six assailants on two motorcycles blocked his way near Abdul Baten Road, between the stadium swimming pool and fire service.
They demanded money from him and shot him in the left side of his waist when he refused. The assailants then took 22 lakh taka from him and fled.
Local people rescued Mahmudul and took him to a nearby hospital before he was transferred to Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
The Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station, Mohammad Sajjad Rumman, said that they are trying to identify the criminals involved by reviewing CCTV footage.
Immediate action is underway to apprehend the suspects. According to family members, the assailants took 22 lakh taka from the injured businessman.
