Two people have died and at least six others were injured after being trampled in a procession marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi in Chattogram city. The incident occurred around 12:00 pm on Saturday in the Muradpur area.
The deceased have been identified as Ayub Ali (60) from Patiya upazila and Saiful Islam (13) from Kalamia Bazar. The injured were immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths.
Sohel Rana, Assistant In-Charge of Chattogram Medical College Police Outpost, confirmed the fatalities and stated that one of the injured is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Members of the Anjuman-e-Rahmania Trust medical team assisted in transporting the victims to the hospital. Aminur Rahman, a team member, said, “Several people collapsed in the crowd due to the heat, and some were trampled in the process. We managed to rescue eight people, but sadly, two of them did not survive.”
The incident highlights the risks associated with large crowds during religious processions, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
