The body of Bangladeshi PhD student Jamil Ahmed Limon, who was murdered in the United States, has arrived in Bangladesh.

According to airport sources, the Emirates Airlines flight carrying his body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:47am on Monday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Limon’s body was flown to Bangladesh on Saturday evening aboard a flight departing from Orlando International Airport in Florida.

On April 16, two Bangladeshi PhD students at the University of South Florida—Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti—went missing in the United States. A friend later informed university authorities the following day.

Prosecutors said Limon had suffered multiple stab wounds and had been restrained. His body was recovered on April 24 using mobile phone location data and vehicle GPS tracking, while Brishti’s body was later found in a nearby water body on April 26.

Following the incident, a SWAT team arrested suspect Hisham Abugharbiyah from his parents’ residence. He has since been denied bail and remains in custody.

Hillsborough County Judge Logan Murphy has ordered that the accused must not contact the victims’ families or any witnesses under any circumstances.

Limon’s namaz-e-janaza was held on April 30 at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area mosque in Tampa, Florida, attended by his classmates, relatives, the Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami, media representatives, and members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

Meanwhile, regarding the repatriation of Brishti’s body, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said consent has been obtained from her family. The Pinellas County Medical Examiner has been requested to release the body to the same funeral home.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Consulate General in Miami are jointly working to ensure her body is sent to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
