Voting for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and hall union elections is underway, with polling beginning at 9 am on Wednesday (October 15) and continuing until 4 pm.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Monir Uddin said all necessary preparations had been completed to ensure a peaceful and fair election.
A visit to the Faculty of Science around 10 am found voters from three residential halls—Shah Amanat Hall, Shaheed Abdur Rob Hall, and Masterda Surya Sen Hall—casting their ballots.
According to the election authorities, Shah Amanat Hall has 2,247 registered voters, Shaheed Abdur Rob Hall 1,775, and Masterda Surya Sen Hall 516.
While voting continues inside, law enforcement agencies have been deployed in large numbers outside polling centers to maintain security. Police presence was visible at every voting center, including the Faculty of Science. So far, no untoward incidents have been reported.
Chittagong University’s Mohammad Yahya Akhtar expressed optimism about the atmosphere, saying, “People haven’t seen voting in 15 years. Students are excited to cast their votes in the CUCSU election. Security arrangements are satisfactory, and we hope the process will conclude in a festive spirit.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz said, “Police and other law enforcement agencies are deployed across all centers. We are hopeful the election will conclude peacefully without any disturbance.”
Meanwhile, Abdullah Mohammad Anas, a candidate for the post of Literary, Cultural, and Publication Secretary from Masterda Surya Sen Hall, said, “So far, the election is being conducted peacefully and transparently.”
