A headmaster sustained injuries after being attacked by a group of school students in Ratanpur Union, Kaliganj upazila, leading to a rapid response from local authorities and military forces.
The violent incident unfolded on Sunday morning at Surta Ali Secondary School.
Headmaster Hazrat Ali revealed that he had been targeted by local individuals since the political upheaval that followed the government`s ousting on August 5.
Despite reporting the harassment to various officials, including the district commissioner and education officer, the intimidation persisted.
After returning to school post-Durga Puja celebrations, Ali was reportedly assaulted by a faction called the "Azad Brigade," which allegedly enlisted students to carry out the attack. The headmaster suffered significant injuries during the confrontation.
Witnesses to the assault promptly notified the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), who acted quickly to address the situation.
Military personnel arrived on the scene to restore order and ensure Ali’s safety.
Assistant Commissioner Amit Kumar Biswas personally managed his evacuation, facilitating his admission to a local health complex for urgent medical care.
Sub-Inspector Tapas Kumar Ghoshal of Kaliganj Police Station informed Dhaka Tribune, “Upon learning of the incident, the Assistant Commissioner intervened to rescue the headmaster from danger.
The army provided essential support in managing the situation. While no formal complaint has been filed yet, appropriate legal actions will follow if the headmaster chooses to pursue charges.”
Assistant Commissioner Biswas added, “The area is now under control.
Legal measures will be taken against those responsible for the assault. Both the military and police are actively working to apprehend the assailants. The headmaster is currently in stable condition.”
This troubling event highlights the urgent need for safeguarding educators and addressing the influence of local factions within school environments.
As investigations progress, the community remains alert, hoping for justice for the headmaster and a return to safety in local schools.
