Lightning strike kills 17-year-old madrasa student in Mathbaria

Shakil Akon, a 17-year-old madrasa student from Pirojpur’s Mathbaria, lost his life after being struck by lightning on Wednesday.

A madrasa student named Shakil Akon (17) was killed by a lightning strike in Mathbaria, Pirojpur on Wednesday morning (May 21) at around 10:30 AM. The incident occurred in Uttar Bhechki village of Tikikata Union.

Shakil was the son of auto-rickshaw driver Md. Yusuf Akon and had recently completed the Dakhil examination from Holta Nesharia Dakhil Madrasa in the upazila.

According to Mostafa Zaman Badal, headteacher of Uttar Bhechki Government Primary School, Shakil was in the field harvesting pulses with his mother, Nazma Begum.

When a thunderstorm began, he sent his mother home and went to bring in their tethered cattle. On his way back with the cattle, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.
