Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced its panel for the upcoming Chittagong University Central Student Union (ChakSU) election under the banner “Sampriti Shikkharthi Jote” (Harmony Student Alliance).
The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon at Jarultala on the university campus by the organisation’s central human resources secretary, Saidul Islam.
The panel features candidates for top positions: Vice-President (VP) Ibrahim Hossain, president of Chhatra Shibir’s Chattogram South city unit and MPhil student in History; General Secretary (GS) Saeed Bin Habib, literary secretary of the CU Shibir unit and postgraduate student in History; Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Sajjad Hossain, president of Shahjalal Hall and postgraduate student in Finance; and Executive Member Akash Das, a third-year student in Sociology and a Hindu candidate.
“We have formed an inclusive panel. It includes candidates from different faiths as well as female students,” Saidul Islam told reporters.
In response to a journalist’s question, Mohammad Ali, president of the CU unit of Chhatra Shibir, said, “Chhatra Dal used to be our ally, but now they are making baseless accusations.”
Other positions in the panel include posts for sports, literature and culture, office administration, female student welfare, science and IT, research, social service and environment, health, liberation war and democratic movements, career development, communication and accommodation, legal affairs and human rights, and library and cafeteria. Several women have also been nominated for different posts.
The announcement reflects Chhatra Shibir’s attempt to project inclusivity in the ChakSU elections with a diverse and mixed slate of candidates.
