Bangladesh Awami League has started announcing the names of those who are given a chance to participate in the 12th National Parliament election.
The general secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader, announced the names of the nominated candidates at the central office of Bangabandhu Avenue around 4pm on Sunday.

Earlier, Awami League sold nomination forms from November 18 to November 21. In at least from six of these constituencies, one bought the nomination form. The party has sold 3,356 nomination forms in the remaining 294 seats. The list of candidates was finalized in the Nomination Board meeting held from November 23 to 25.
Although the names of the candidates for most of the constituencies were finalized in the meeting of the Parliamentary Nomination Board, the list was not published due to strategic reasons.
Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held an exchange meeting with the aspirants at Ganabhaban after 10:00 AM before publishing the list of final candidates. She said in the meeting that no one can pass without competing. Each candidate should have one party dummy candidate.
The election commission announced the polling date on November 15. Voting will be held on January 7.
As per the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the election is November 30. Nomination papers will be selected between 1st and 4th December. Appeals against selection of nomination papers will be decided between 6th and 15th December. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 17th December. And the symbol will be allotted on December 18. Campaigning will be ended on January 5 and voting will start on January 7.
Although the ruling Awami League and its allied and like-minded parties welcomed the schedule, the BNP and its alliance and movement partners rejected the schedule and continued the agitation.
