DU elections: 658 nomination forms collected for 28 posts

A total of 658 students have collected nomination forms for the 28 posts in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.

Of these, 93 forms were collected on the final day, Tuesday, while 565 forms were taken during the previous eight days. With a student population exceeding 37,000, roughly 1.78 students per 100 have expressed interest in contesting the elections.

Chief Election Commissioner of Dhaka University, Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin, briefed reporters at his office on Tuesday, providing an update on the nomination process.

He stated that out of the 658 forms sold, 106 had already been submitted. The exact number of forms sold on the final day of collection is yet to be confirmed.

For the Hall Union elections, a total of 1,226 forms had been collected until Monday. Wednesday marks the final day for submitting nomination papers, after which the number of candidates contesting for each post will be revealed.

According to the election schedule, the last day to withdraw nominations is August 25, and the final list of candidates will be published on August 26. Voting is scheduled for September 9.

Professor Jasim Uddin emphasized that only valid Dhaka University students have collected nomination forms, and no student has applied under any political party banner.

He added that any candidate found on the criminal list before the day of voting will be disqualified from contesting.
