Chamber court lifts HC stay, clears way for DUCSU polls

The Supreme Court’s Chamber Court has suspended a High Court order that had halted the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, effectively clearing the way for the polls to proceed.

Earlier on Monday, a High Court bench comprising Justice Habibul Gani and Justice Sheikh Tahsin Ali had stayed the DUCSU election until October 30 following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition.

However, responding to an appeal filed by Dhaka University authorities, Chamber Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division later set aside the High Court’s order.

Following the decision, DU’s lawyer, Mohammad Shishir Monir, told reporters that with the Chamber Court’s ruling, “there is no longer any bar to holding the DUCSU election.”
