Jamaat announces rallies in major cities on July 28, in Dhaka on August 1

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced rallies in major cities on July 28, marches in district towns on July 30, and a rally in Dhaka on August 1.

They announced the programs demanding the formation of a caretaker government, release of the party’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and other detained leaders, activists, as well as to address the issue of rising commodity prices in the country.

The announcement was made today during a press conference held at an auditorium in the capital.

Acting Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP, Professor Mujibur Rahman, presented a written statement during the press conference.

He said, “Establishing a caretaker government system is urgent to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process.”

He expressed concern over the detention of election candidates and criticized the government‍‍`s intention to conduct elections without addressing the demand for a caretaker government.

"The entire nation is united in establishing a caretaker government system to make this election free, fair, impartial, and participatory," he said.

He accused the government of organizing the administration in a manner that undermines the independence of the Election Commission.

Furthermore, Rahman raised grievances about the party‍‍`s “lack of freedom” to hold meetings and processions, particularly in Sylhet and Chattogram.

“Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, along with members of other political parties, are being falsely detained to obstruct the possibility of fair and participatory elections,” he said.

Reflecting on the state of previous elections in the country, he said: “Under the present government‍‍`s 15-year rule, no election, including the national elections in 2014 and 2018, as well as city corporation, upazila parishad, municipal, and union parishad elections, was conducted in a free, fair, participatory, and impartial manner.”

"The behavior of the government in the recent Dhaka-17 by-election has proven that no election can be free and fair under this government," he added.

Jamaat-e-Islami‍‍`s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Acting Secretary General ATM Taher, Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Central Publicity Secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Dhaka city south ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, Dhaka City north acting Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, Secretary Muhammad Rezaul Karim, and Secretary General of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Manjurul Islam were also present at the event.
