BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet the party’s demand of poll-time caretaker government.
Referring to PM's invitation for tea, he said: "The PM has invited us for tea if we reach her office. First you have to meet our demand of poll-time caretaker government , then we will sit for having tea together. We don’t have any objection in taking tea with you."
He made the comment while addressing a discussion arranged by Association of Engineers , Bangladesh on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, addressing a party meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she will offer tea to the BNP leaders and give them a patient hearing even if they come to seize her office (Prime Minister's Office) as she believes in democracy.
"I will offer them tea, I will give them a place to sit. I will listen to them whatever they want to say. Look, I believe in democracy," she said.
Alleging that Bangladesh is likely to face a deepening economic crisis like Sri Lanka though the government is now trying to hush up the reality, he said: Government’s mismanagement and wrong policy are responsible for the current power crisis in the country."
He alleged that the government is ruining the country’s economy by indulging in massive corruption in the name of mega projects. “Our banks are struggling with bad loans. Although there is no rule to borrowing from the reserves, loans have been given from there secretly…this economy of looters won’t last long.”
The BNP spokesman called upon people from all walks of life to get united to save the country by ensuring the fall of the current government through a strong street movement.
“People want a change in government and they don't want to see this regime in power anymore,” he added.
