BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has declared that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can never be forgiven for the alleged brutalities committed under her regime.
"Hasina is a disgrace to humanity and to mothers. There is no forgiveness for her. Justice must be served," he said on Sunday.
He made the remarks while attending a tree-planting program at the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The event was organized by the BNP-affiliated Krishak Dal and the platform “Amra BNP Poribar” under the slogan: “Mass Uprising 2024 – A Democratic Journey in Green Memory.”
Referring to a grieving mother who lost her son during the recent July movement, Mirza Fakhrul emotionally recounted:
"The mother who dreamt of her son`s bright future saw that dream shattered. Her son was taken away—violently, cruelly. He was shot, thrown into a van, and possibly burned along with others. No one even checked if he was still alive. Just imagine—this happened in an independent country for which we fought a war in 1971. Now, the very state forces funded by our tax money are killing our children and burning them alive. It is beyond brutal."
Mirza Fakhrul held Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina responsible, stating: "This level of inhuman cruelty is unforgivable. Sheikh Hasina is a stain on humanity, a disgrace to mothers. Our first task must be to bring those responsible to justice. The second task must be to rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and provide proper medical care and support to the injured. If we fail to do so, future generations will not forgive us."
He also announced plans to create a dedicated fund for the families of those injured and killed during the July movement.
“There will be elections. Who gets power is a secondary matter. Today, I will urge our acting chairman to establish a party-backed fund for the rehabilitation of the injured and the families of the martyrs. Already, our platform ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ has stepped forward to support these families,” Fakhrul added.
