Awami League General Secretary, Obaidul Quader, issued a challenge to BNP Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, during a press conference in Dhanmondi on Monday (April 15).
Quader accused BNP leaders of misinformation regarding the number of incarcerated party members. He questioned the dramatic increase from 20,000 to 60,000 prisoners, demanding transparency. Quader stated, "Publish the list of 60,000 prisoners immediately, or Mirza Fakhrul should apologize to the nation for spreading falsehoods."
During the press conference, Quader also criticized BNP`s historical role, alleging their intent to undermine Bangladesh`s foundational principles. He asserted, "BNP aims to undermine Bangladesh`s essence. They reveal their true intentions by disregarding their role in the liberation of `71."
When asked about tensions between Iran and Israel, Quader emphasized a stance of peace, stating, "We advocate for peace, not war."
Regarding government initiatives during Ramadan to stabilize daily commodity prices, Quader affirmed continuation based on public need, stating, "As long as there is a demand, programs like the anti-syndicate campaign will persist for public benefit."
The press conference saw the presence of several Awami League officials, including Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, and others.
