The Awami League has a very deep root, according to Prime Minister and the party President Sheikh Hasina, and no force has yet been established in Bangladesh that can overthrow the Awami League government.
She said this replying to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Fakhrul Imam.
A party that was founded from the soil rather than from the back pockets of any illegitimate power-grabber or military tyrant, she furthered.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia, Ershad and Khaleda Zia tried to destroy the Awami League but failed, adding that “They would never be able to do so – Inshallah.”
She added that the people vote for Awami League spontaneously because they know Awami League keeps the promises whatever it makes. “We keep our word.”
She said BNP didn’t join the 2014 general election as the party knew that they secured only 30 seats in the 2008 election and the country witnessed an unprecedented development due to the steps taken by the grand alliance government.
“So, the people bestowed their trust and confidence on us and voted for us. They (BNP) boycotted the election,” she said.
The premier stated the government would take harder action, if necessary, against the hoarders of goods and black marketers in order to lessen the suffering of customers in response to another follow-up question from AL MP Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu.
