India's Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was sued for defamation after making offensive comments about the surname 'Modi'. He was convicted in that case and sentenced to two years in prison. This time he lost his position as a member of parliament.
This was informed by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Friday (March, 24), NDTV reported. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla revoked Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary seat from Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
On Thursday (March, 23), Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) HH Verma of Surat, Gujarat India found opposition leader Rahul Gandhi guilty of defamation for a 2019 speech in which he referred to thieves as having the surname 'Modi' and sentenced him to two years in prison.
