No TikTok takeover: Elon Musk clears up confusion

Elon Musk has shut down rumors that he is looking to buy TikTok, the popular video-sharing app that is under scrutiny in the US over potential security risks.

In a recent interview at a virtual event hosted by The WELT Group, part of the German media company Axel Springer SE, Musk clarified his stance.

He said, "I have not put in a bid for TikTok. I don‍‍`t have any plans for what I would do if I had TikTok."

Musk, known for leading companies like Tesla and SpaceX, also pointed out that he doesn‍‍`t even use the app and generally avoids buying existing companies.

“I‍‍`m not eager to acquire TikTok. I usually build companies from scratch,” he added.

The only exception to this, he said, was his $44 billion purchase of Twitter (now X).

These comments come as US lawmakers are pushing for a ban on TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, due to concerns about data privacy and security.

Although former President Donald Trump had suggested a ban and hinted that someone like Musk might be interested in buying the app, ByteDance has stated that it has no intention of selling TikTok.

The controversy continues as TikTok remains a popular app in the US, with around 170 million users.

Even with TikTok being removed from US app stores, the company has made it possible for Android users to download it directly from its website, keeping the debate over the app‍‍`s future alive.

Musk’s latest comments have sparked even more conversations about the future of TikTok and its place in the global tech landscape.
