Satellite-based internet service provider Starlink has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh.
According to a government technology advisor, Starlink confirmed the launch over a phone call on Monday afternoon. The company also announced the news through its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Two service packages are available initially: Starlink Residential and Residential Lite. The monthly cost for these packages is BDT 6,000 and BDT 4,200, respectively.
Additionally, there is a one-time hardware cost of BDT 47,000. The service offers unlimited data with speeds up to 300 Mbps, with no speed or data cap. Customers in Bangladesh can begin placing orders starting today.
The launch meets the earlier directive to bring Starlink to Bangladesh within 90 days.
Despite the high cost, the service is seen as a sustainable high-speed internet option for premium users.
It also provides an opportunity for companies to expand their services in remote areas where fiber or fast internet is still unavailable.
Furthermore, NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs will benefit from year-round access to reliable, high-speed internet.
