Aamir Khan announces Silkyara 41, film based on 2023 Uttarakhand tunnel rescue

After beginning a new chapter in his personal life, Bollywood star Aamir Khan has now shared good news on the professional front. On July 5, the actor reportedly married Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony attended by close family members and friends. Just five days after the wedding, Aamir announced a new international film project for his fans.

According to reports, Aamir Khan Productions, Kabir Khan Films, and Australia‍‍`s Mind Blowing Films are joining forces to produce a film titled Silkyara 41. The movie will be directed by National Film Award-winning filmmaker Kabir Khan and is based on a true story. The screenplay has been written by acclaimed Australian author Andrew Anastasios.

Silkyara 41 will recount the dramatic 2023 rescue operation in which 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, were safely brought out after a tense 17-day mission. The extraordinary rescue effort will now be brought to the big screen.

The filmmakers describe the project as more than just a rescue story, calling it a powerful tribute to courage, humanity, resilience, and international cooperation. The film will also highlight the role of internationally renowned tunneling expert Professor Arnold Dix, who played a key part in the operation.

Expressing his excitement about the project, Aamir Khan said, “The story of the Silkyara Tunnel rescue moved me deeply. It is a story of courage, resilience, ingenuity and humanity in the face of impossible odds.” 

He added, "We are especially proud to announce it on this historic day, as India and Australia open a new chapter in their bilateral relationship."

The collaboration between Aamir Khan and Kabir Khan—best known for directing blockbuster films such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Ek Tha Tiger, and 83—has already generated considerable excitement among moviegoers. Following his new beginning in his personal life, Aamir is now entering a busy phase professionally with the announcement of this major international project.
