Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is stepping back into the recording studio—this time as a trained vocalist.
Nearly 27 years after his popular track Aati Kya Khandala from Ghulam (1998), Khan is lending his voice to two songs in his upcoming, yet-to-be-titled comedy film.
Unlike his earlier casual singing stint, Aamir has spent years undergoing formal vocal training for this project.
Speaking about the film, Aamir described it as a light, feel-good comedy reminiscent of the works of Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
“It’s the kind of cinema we’ve forgotten how to make—sweet, innocent comedy,” he said. “No heavy drama, no tragedy. Just that warm, wonderful feeling those old films used to give us.”
Though Aamir will appear in a cameo role, he noted that his part is crucial to the story. His involvement as a playback singer also makes the project more personal and special.
The actor credited his vocal improvement to years of dedicated training under classical vocalist Sucheta Bhattacharjee.
“Ever since I sang Aati Kya Khandala, I’ve been taking singing lessons. Now, I’m singing two songs in my own voice for this film,” he revealed. The film’s music is being composed by Ram Sampath, known for his innovative and bold musical style.
Aamir also paid tribute to the late Lata Mangeshkar, whom he regards as a constant source of inspiration. “My day begins with her songs. I miss Lata Didi very much. She was always affectionate toward me. I wish she could have heard what I’m working on now,” he said, recalling their bond.
While details about the film’s title and release date remain undisclosed, Aamir Khan’s return to playback singing adds an intriguing and nostalgic element to a project already generating buzz.
As fans eagerly await the film, many are especially excited to hear how the actor—renowned for his perfectionism—sounds as a polished vocalist in 2025.
