US university to award posthumous degrees to Bangladeshi students

University of South Florida has decided to award posthumous doctoral degrees to Bangladeshi students Zamil Ahamed Limon and Nahida Sultana Bristy, who were killed in the United States.

The university said the degrees will be presented during its spring commencement ceremony on May 9.

According to an official letter sent to the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami, the university requested a representative from the consulate to receive the honours on behalf of the families.

Officials said a consulate representative is expected to attend the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the first funeral prayer for Bristy is scheduled to take place in Tampa on May 6.

Her body is expected to be flown to Dhaka via Dubai and arrive in Bangladesh on May 9.
