Although Anya Singh appeared in several roles earlier, she gained widespread recognition through Netflix’s series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, winning the hearts of the Gen Z audience. In a recent interview, the young actress shared her experiences portraying different characters and her impressions of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Anya made her debut as a lead actress with Yash Raj Films’ Kaaydi Band and later appeared in significant roles in Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan and Stri 2, earning critical praise for her performances. She also featured in several OTT series, but none of these roles brought her the level of fame she achieved as ‘Sania’, the manager of Asman Singh, in The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. The character has been widely appreciated by viewers.
Speaking to Zoom Online, Anya said, “As an artist, I love taking on challenges and exploring new characters. I enjoy the entire process of bringing a character to life and preparing mentally for the role. I only accept a project if I genuinely feel connected to the script or want to work with a particular director.” She added that this approach guided her decisions in Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan and Stri 2.
Discussing her role as content creator ‘Lala’ in Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan, Anya noted that the character was the most challenging she had played. “Although content creators are common now and the role may seem simple, Lala was very different from me. I was nervous about doing justice to the character, but once on set, I truly felt like I had transformed into Lala.”
In Stri 2, she played a young woman named ‘Chitti’. Both roles required her to learn unique speech patterns, as she does not naturally speak like her characters. “In reality, I have interacted with people similar to Lala and Chitti. Social media often projects a particular image, but the reality can be very different,” she added.
Through this series, Anya had the opportunity to meet Shah Rukh Khan up close, as the show marks the directorial debut of his son, Aryan Khan. On her experience, she said, “Beyond being a superstar, Shah Rukh Khan touched me as a father figure. I lost my own father a few years ago, and seeing Shah Rukh sir’s relationship with his children reminded me of him. His care for his children is remarkable.”
She also expressed admiration for his personality, noting, “Shah Rukh sir doesn’t judge people based on their background. He makes everyone feel special and knows how to give others their due respect.”
Critics and audiences agree that the success of The Ba**ds of Bollywood* has opened new opportunities for Anya, paving the way for many more achievements in her career.
