Cash and jewellery worth INR 14.1 million (Rs34 million) has reportedly been stolen from Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja's residence in New Delhi.
The incident took place in February but reports began circulating in the media on April 8. Kapoor and Ahuja are currently in Mumbai, but their staff — 25 employees including nine caretakers, drivers, gardeners and other workers — are being questioned in the investigation.
As per Pinkvilla, along with the police, the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) are also involved in the case to collect any form of evidence at the crime scene. The case was kept under wraps considering that it involves Kapoor and Ahuja. According to the publication, the reports collected by the authorities suggests that the culprits have not been identified yet. According to Indian media, the Veere Di Wedding actor's father-in-law Harish Ahuja and mother-in-law Priya Ahuja live in the Delhi residence located in Amirta Shergill Marg — Delhi's costliest neighbourhood — along with Ahuja's grandmother Sarla Ahuja. In the complaint filed by the family, Sarla claimed that she got to know about the theft two months ago on Feb 11 when she checked her cupboard for jewellery and cash. The complaint was lodged on Feb 23 and she informed the police that she last checked the jewellery and cash in her cupboard two years ago.
After the complaint was lodged the police began investigating the case at the actor's house. CCTV footage from the past year is also being reviewed to identify the culprits. According to Pinkvilla, last month a report claimed that Kapoor's father-in-law Harish's law firm had been duped of INR 270 million (Rs661 million) and 10 people were arrested in that case.
Kapoor and Ahuja announced this month that they are expecting their first child. The pair took the news to Instagram and shared photos of their pregnancy on March 21. "Four hands to raise you the very best we can. Two hearts that will beat in unison with yours, every step of the way. One family who will shower you with love and support. We can’t wait to welcome you," their post read.
Kapoor and her husband tied the knot in 2018. They've been open about their relationship, sharing how they met and how they work on their long distance marriage. The couple often shares photos with each other captioned #EverydayPhenomenal on Instagram and even changed their names post marriage — Kapoor added Ahuja and Ahuja added an S as his middle name.
