BPL ticket chaos sparks fire at ticket booth amid frustrated fans

The ticketing problems surrounding this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) are continuing to cause major disruptions, leading to yet another chaotic incident.

On Thursday, a fire broke out at a ticket booth near the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur around 12:30 PM, after frustrated fans, who had been waiting in line for hours, failed to get tickets.

The booth was located beside the Mirpur Swimming Complex.

Thankfully, the fire was brought under control before it spread further, but the incident reflected growing frustrations over poor ticket management.

Fans have been facing issues from the very beginning of the tournament.

On December 29, huge crowds gathered early in the morning, hoping to secure tickets.

But much to their disappointment, they couldn’t get their hands on any.

The situation turned chaotic again on the opening day, December 30, when angry fans, unable to get tickets, broke the gates of the stadium.

The second day of the tournament went smoothly, but Thursday’s fire incident showed that tensions among fans remain high.

According to reports, many fans waited for hours in line on December 29 without any luck, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not give proper information about ticket availability.

Only by noon did they announce that tickets would be sold at 4 PM at one private bank branch.

On the opening day itself, the scene outside the stadium grew tense as fans, upset by the lack of tickets, started to show their anger by breaking the gates and damaging displays outside.

Some even blocked the team bus of Durbar Rajshahi in frustration.

Though the fire was swiftly put out, the ongoing mismanagement of tickets for this year’s BPL has sparked major concerns.

Adding to the controversy, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan’s press secretary, Mahfuzul Alam, has been accused of mistreating BCB President Farooq Ahmed, with reports of dissatisfaction over the handling of ticket sales and other arrangements.

As fans continue to express their frustration, the BPL organizers have come under increased pressure to resolve these issues before further incidents occur.
