Brazil has once again proven their dominance in South American youth football by winning the U-20 South American Championship for the second consecutive year.
Their 3-0 victory over Chile in the final matchday secured them 13 points and the top spot, but it wasn’t an easy road to the title.
Meanwhile, Argentina`s hopes of winning the tournament were dashed in heartbreaking fashion.
The team needed to win by at least four goals against Paraguay to have a chance at the championship, but instead, they lost 3-2. With this defeat, Argentina was knocked out of the race for the title.
Brazil’s journey to this moment wasn’t straightforward. They had a rough start in the tournament, suffering a massive 6-0 defeat at the hands of Argentina in the group stages.
However, they rallied to lift the trophy, showing resilience and skill in the final stages.
In the last match against Chile, Brazil started slowly and found themselves struggling to make an impact on the game.
For nearly 72 minutes, the team couldn`t break through Chile`s defense.
Despite creating chances, their attacks were repeatedly blocked by Chilean defenders.
But in the final 17 minutes, Brazil came alive, scoring three goals in quick succession.
Between the 73rd and 88th minutes, David Washington, Pedro, and Ricardo Matías each found the back of the net, giving Brazil a 3-0 lead and sealing the victory.
After Brazil`s win, they made their way to the stadium where Argentina was playing and supported Paraguay, hoping for a defeat for their fierce rivals.
When Argentina’s loss was confirmed, Brazil’s players celebrated their second consecutive championship title.
With this victory, Brazil has now won the U-20 South American Championship 13 times.
