Colombia top Group K after goalless draw with Portugal

In their final group-stage match, Colombia faced a strong Portugal side in a high-voltage clash at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The Group K encounter was full of end-to-end attacking football, but it ultimately ended in a goalless draw as both teams shared the points.

With this result, Colombia finished top of the group with 7 points from three matches and advanced to the knockout stage as group winners. Portugal, meanwhile, collected 5 points from the same number of games and qualified as runners-up, securing their place in the next round alongside Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.

From the opening minutes, both teams showed attacking intent. Colombia created a big chance inside the first minute when John Cordoba’s header went just over the bar. In the 16th minute, Cordoba’s powerful strike was brilliantly saved by Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

At the 22-minute mark, Jhon Arias saw his effort cleared off the line by Ruben Neves. Portugal responded in the 39th minute when a powerful shot from Bruno Fernandes was denied by Colombia goalkeeper Vargas.

Cristiano Ronaldo was tightly marked throughout the match and frequently caught offside, limiting his influence in attack. Just before halftime, a low shot from James Rodríguez was comfortably gathered by Diogo Costa, and the teams went into the break level at 0–0.

In the second half, Colombia raised the tempo and pressed higher. In the 71st minute, Portugal coach Roberto Martinez introduced Joao Felix and Vitinha to strengthen the attack, while Rafael Leao added further pace and width later on.

In the 81st minute, a move involving Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes nearly produced a breakthrough, but Colombia’s defense cleared the danger. In the 92nd minute, Colombia thought they had scored when Davinson Sanchez headed the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the final moments of extra time, Rafael Leao missed a clear opportunity, and the match ended 0–0.

According to the knockout-stage draw, Colombia will face Ghana in the Round of 32, while Portugal are set to meet Croatia.
