Meyers Wreaks Havoc in Chattogram Test

Kyle Mayers, arriving at the crease on Saturday evening with his side three down for 59 chasing a humongous score of 395, took the team to victory with an unbeaten 210 off 310 balls. Of course, some records were broken. He became the first man to score 200 in the fourth innings on Test debut and achieving the highest successful run-chase in Asia. A dazzling double century from Kyle Mayers on debut left Bangladesh overwhelmed as West Indies pulled off a three-wicket win in the first Tests to go 1-0 up in the two-match series in Chattogram.

It was indeed a frustrating defeat for the home side, who had hoped for a few wickets after reducing the visitors to 110 for three at the end of the fourth day. There were glimpse of a win following that century from Mominul and Miraz previously, and Miraz’s impressive bowling streak on the 4th day of the test. But Alas, none of that mattered when Meyers took the crease and played as he saw fit.

There was a lack of seriousness in the body language of the Tigers as they went without a wicket in the first two sessions and the Caribbeans took this opportunity.

The defeat keeps Bangladesh firmly at the foot of the ICC Test Championship table without a single point following four defeats in four matches. A statistic that is difficult to brush off.
