In a move to boost security during the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid celebrations, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will be deploying 500 auxiliary officers throughout the city.
These individuals, who are already experienced in private security roles for shopping malls and local neighborhoods, will be appointed temporarily for one month to assist in law enforcement activities.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali made this announcement during a press briefing held on Saturday at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road.
He mentioned that these police aides will carry out tasks similar to regular police officers and will be granted the power to arrest offenders during this period.
“We are recruiting 500 people with private security experience for this special duty. They will be given a badge by the DMP and authorized to act with the same power as the police. If any of these officers face attacks while arresting criminals, it will be treated as ‘assault on police,’ and legal action will be taken accordingly,” said Commissioner Sajjat Ali.
This initiative falls under the legal jurisdiction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Act, the Commissioner added, ensuring that these temporary recruits will be fully integrated into the security efforts during the busy Ramadan and Eid periods.
By reinforcing security personnel, the DMP aims to ensure a safer environment for the city’s residents as they prepare for the holidays.
