Thousands of BNP supporters, including members of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swechchasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal, took to the streets on Sunday morning in a protest march towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
The protest was sparked by an attack on the Bangladesh mission in Agartala and the desecration of the national flag.
The BNP also aimed to voice their opposition to what they call an "Indian plot" to fuel communal tensions in Bangladesh.
The march officially started at 11:30 am from BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, with leaders and supporters arriving in droves from different parts of the city.
Before the march, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, alongside other top leaders, addressed the gathering.
In their speeches, they accused India’s ruling party and media of spreading false information and trying to disturb religious peace in Bangladesh.
By 9:30 am, crowds of protesters had started gathering at the BNP office, waving national flags and holding banners with messages condemning India`s "hegemonic" actions.
They also chanted slogans against what they described as Indian interference in Bangladesh’s internal matters.
The demonstration will end with the submission of a memorandum to the Indian High Commission, registering BNP`s protest against recent incidents and comments made by Indian officials and media.
The decision to stage the protest march was made by the three BNP associate organisations on Saturday.
